History Adobe introduced transparency to Adobe Illustrator in 2000, with version 9. It was a huge deal, because for the first time, Illustrator users had full vector transparency. In addition, Illustrator 9 shipped with other desirable features such as drop shadows, glow effects and opacity masks.
